YahwehIs Bono a born-again Christian or is he not?
That is the question that many U2 fans, especially Christian ones, continually debate.
My opinion is that there ain't no question Bono knows the Gospel and knows Grace - his lyrics and life tell of this - the question though in my mind always has been whether he believes in the exclusivity of Christ - does he believe Jesus is the only way?
That's where it all hinges.
I hope that he does.
I hope that the greatest front-man of all time will be singing in the choirs of heaven.
But I am not the judge.
But for a moment, regardless of all that and regardless of our position on Bono there is something amazing about the u2 anthem "Yahweh."
I was watching one of their concert dvd's the other night and there is something to be said about a band and a stadium, containing a sea of people, singing under the lights the holy covenant name of God.
Admitedly a lot of them probably don't give it a second thought...but some do.
And when the lights fade in and out and you hear the stadium echo "Yahweh...Yahwehhhh..." it's pretty darn incredible...

"Is Bono a Christian or not?"- the question that seems to creep its way into every article about U2 in some way or another. Reading his lyrics, it's undeniable that he (as you said) "knows" the gospel, and I would even add "lives" it to a degree. But- and I don't want to overstate this- but it seems to me that there's something wrong if for 20+ years no one can 100% positively identify him as a Christian.
If I were to speculate (not judge) the standing of Bono's faith: He strikes me as a man who was religious in his youth, was dissatisfied with the church's lack of involvement in social issues, and so began to "sample" other faiths through his young adult life (perhaps searching for a faith that agreed with his angst against injustice), and found the Bible/Gospel message to be most in alignment with his agenda. Which would explain why he is known more as an activist for "good causes" than a Christian known for his fruit. This might also explain the questionable speeches he's made about religious tolerance and co-existence; those faiths that make you want to help a village of orphans and refugees (for example) are valid and acceptable. Some of the things he's said along those lines in articles and concerts have really raised a red flag for me.
Maybe I put that too boldly, but that's my two cents.
he's catholic
He was never catholic- he was raised church of Ireland Protestant.
He became a born again christian through some Jesus movement"cult" in the 1970s as a teenager before becoming a rock star.
He has proclaimed publically that he is a Christian. He has never denied it.

Anyone who has read his bios or knows anything about him would know this
And, why doubt him?
Isn't it said that you will know a Christian by his actions and not by his words?
Have you read what Bono says in Tim Keller's "The Reason for God"
