My Name is Adam and I Approve This Message

When it comes to politics I am definitely rather apolitical (as Phil likes to say). Don't get me wrong I think there is value in politics and I do my best to try and know whats going on but I'm probably not going to slap a bumper sticker on my car or participate in a political rally anytime in the forseeable future. I vote and care who wins but I spend far more time thinking about if I crashlanded in a jungle would I be able to eat my own shoe to survive than I do about elephants and donkeys.

For instance, once I finally realized that Charlie Crist and Tom Gallagher were BOTH Republican candidates for the upcoming Florida gubernatorial election I wasn't immediately pondering where each man stood on what issue but rather, "what is the deal with the sign placement of politcal candidates?"

Has anyone noticed this?

It seems like the campaign manager for all the different candidates is the same person - a sophomore from Lauderdale High who helped get his girlfriend Becky on Student Council. It's as if from the months of August to Novemeber the city of Fort Lauderdale turns into one big hallway of lockers that candidates can just plaster their crap all over. But even in high school you try and be strategic with your flyers and bake sales. Not these guys. Any vacant lot in the city is full of wooden stake signs. Construction site fences are plastered with red, white and blue signs as if any of the workers who go on break talk about anything other than the Dolphins. You can even find them taped to the sides of the portable toilets on these construction sites. The other day I drove by an abandoned Denny's that looked like it had been fire-bombed and yet every single window contained a candidates sign. I don't know about you but if I am headed to the polls and am not really sure who to vote for I can assure you I will vote for whoever my mind does NOT subconciously associate with fire-bombed Denny's and construction worker poop.

As long as political candidates literature is slapped to the sides of building right next to gang graffiti it may take these guys a lot longer to shed the stereotype that all politicians are crooked and have no class. If any of these candidate's platforms promises a city beautification project - that would be the ultimate irony.
