rain drops and coffee beansrain drops quench the thirsty ground
as the highway puddles and glistens
causing tires to spin round and round, grabbing when traction is found
a cup of espresso moistens my parched throat
and quickens my napping pulse as i sit
today the door of the coffee shop is propped - sign illumined, products to boast
the windows are fogged as the overcast sky breathes on the finger-smudged glass
the a/c hums overhead and sneaks out the propped door
offering its cool and the warmth of a mug to those who pass
how do you pass your sunday afternoons?
wrapped in the arms of a cat nap?
in a leather chair with book and brew?
or maybe with salt and sun on the beaches dunes?
i don't know you but can i tell you i miss you?
a kiss in the rain has been traded for a rain soaked afternoon
the anxiety of an evening once was enough to make this heart race
now its espresso, pastries and the nightly lager
until i see your face
until i see your face
until i see your face
